Spring Lake is a 22 hectare lake on a working cattle farm located between Machadodorp and Badplaas, less than 3 hours’ drive from Johannesburg. The lake is situated high on a mountain and is fed by 4 natural springs, the largest of which emerges from the ground and flows for 3kms before entering the lake. These natural springs keep the lake cold all year and as the lake is not pumped for water, the level stays constant all year around. It is without question the clearest water I have ever fished, it’s like everything below the surface is suspended in air. The lake has a variety of features: deep channels, extensive shallows, weed beds and drop-offs and is stocked with hard fighting rainbow trout. Five guests, each with their own bedroom and bathroom, will be accommodated in a luxurious modern home built on the lake’s shores. Bedrooms all have floor to ceiling windows with stunning lake views. We will be hosting our first two trips to this venue in October this year. The trips will run from a Thursday to a Sunday (4 nights). All meals are provided and Frontier Fly Fishing hosts will be on hand to assist guests to learn the fundamentals of still water fishing. So the trips are aimed at beginner or intermediate anglers wanting to learn about kick-boating and effectively fishing still waters. Of course the trips will also appeal to anyone who would like some quality fishing on a beautiful piece of water lees than 3 hours from Jo’burg. It doesn’t hurt that the accommodation is truly 7 star!
