Jurassic Lake Fly Fishing
Jurassic Lake is renowned for its monster rainbow trout, having regularly produced specimens of over 20lbs since we first started fishing the venue back in 2004. These fish are by far the largest, non-anadromous rainbows you’ll encounter anywhere in the world.
This natural lake is larger than Sterkfontien and fed by a single river, the Rio Barrancoso. The lake’s location, just 5000 kms north of the Antarctic circle, ensures that water temperatures in both the river and lake do not exceed 5 degress Celsius throughout the year, allowing the fish to thrive and grow to gargantuan size.
Our camp is located a stone’s throw from the mouth of the river where the large fish congregate and then head out of the lake and up the river to spawn. The location of the camp allows anglers to fish both the lake shore as well as miles and miles of the fish-filled Rio Barrancoso. Near our camp are a series of low cliffs which offer the opportunity to spot large fish and sight-fish to them with dry flies.
Our camp is luxurious with all the worldly comforts, with the chef producing stunning and sumptuous meals from the camp’s kitchen. The camp guides are all experienced and possess an in-depth knowledge of the area and the river- and lake conditions.
