Frontier Fly Fishing is a dedicated fly fishing retail store in Bryanston, Johannesburg. It is the brainchild of two avid fly-fishermen, Dean Riphagen and Tom Lewin. Formed in 2002 with the express vision of shaking up the South African fly-fishing market and bringing a new generation of fly-shop to the local market.

Our Evolution

Frontier Fly Fishing has grown into much more than a stand-alone retail fly-shop. It has evolved into three separate businesses comprising a retail- (Frontier Fly Fishing), wholesale- (Frontier Distribution – the largest of the three divisions) and a fly-fishing travel operation. Our retail and wholesale operations have grown to become the largest of their kind in South Africa. The company is the sole distributor of almost every major American fly-fishing brand. Including: Sage Fly Fishing, Abel Reels, Ross Reels, Simms Fishing, C&F Design , Tiemco Products, Scientific Anglers, Waterworks Lamson Reels and Whiting Farm, to name a few. We are always looking for new and innovative products to bring to our market.

Our Growth

Frontier Fly Fishing has its retail and wholesale base in the heart of the Sandton CBD in Gauteng. It is ideally located to serve the needs of Johannesburg-based fly fisherman. The company distributes its brands countrywide to dealers throughout South Africa, and through its online store is able to serve the needs of fly fishermen in areas where no specialist fly shops are present, or the brands we represent are not sold.
